Apophyllite Series - Maharashtra State, India

Apophyllite from India is one of our Top 100 minerals for Collectors.
The apophyllite group minerals, fluorapophyllite and hydroxyapophyllite, are one of the most widespread collector minerals found in the Deccan flood basalt quarries. The color, size and quality of the specimens produced by the Indian localities make the best of these the finest for the group.

These minerals also occur in a wide variety of habits in colors that include colorless, white, and various shades of green (imparted by vanadium impurities). Among the most prized are from the Pashan Hills and feature divergent clusters of vibrant green elongated and sharply pointed, pyramidal crystals set on white drusy minerals, commonly stilbite. The quarries around Jalgaon and Aurangabad produce doubly-terminated crystals commonly and attractively associated with white stilbite crystals or other zeolite species. In the early 2000s, superb, nearly spherical radiating aggregates were discovered in the Rahuri area.
