Bournonite - Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China
Bournonite from the Yaogangxian Mine is in our list of Top 100 Minerals.
Among the real treats for mineral connoisseurs to emerge from this locality in recent years are the fantastically superb bournonite crystals. Blockier and more prismatic than the classic “cogwheel” ore from England, these highly lustrous, sharp crystals to 10 cm in length bring a new dimension to the species. Commonly associated with other sulfides or quartz, many specimens also consist of superb single crystals.
Bournonite from the Yaogangxian Mine was also the featured mineral in Bob Cook’s “Connoisseur’s Choice” in the Jan/Feb 2005 issue of Rocks & Minerals.
