Dalen-Kjørholt 'Limestone' Mine, Kjørholt, Brevik, Porsgrunn, Telemark, Norway

A specimen from the new find of unusual Amber Calcites from Norway. Multiple generations of honey coloured translucent Calcite crystals, mostly of sharply formed scalenohedral habit, rise to a height of 35mm from the Calcareous matrix. Some crystals exhibit a frosty lustre, whilst others have a bright satin lustre. Perched upon some of the larger crystals are a younger generation of small flower-like clusters of diverging scalenohedral crystals to 6mm. Further interesting detail on this example is provided by complex terminations somewhat resembling crowns upon otherwise scalenohedral crystals. An aesthetic and truly unique Calcite from a limited find!
