Dalen-Kjørholt 'Limestone' Mine, Kjørholt, Brevik, Porsgrunn, Telemark, Norway

A well proportioned display specimen from the recent 2007 find in Norway. Only two pockets were found of the Amber Calcites. The cluster of diverging crystals has a large dominant crystal measuring 50 x 25 x 20mm, surrounded by smaller crystals to 25mm. The Calcites have complex scalenohedral form, the growth detail on the crystal faces creating a 'wheat sheaf' appearance. The crystals have a glowing rich amber colour, are translucent to transparent, and a pretty 'frosty' lustre. Later generations of scalenohedral crystals grow from the large crystals, including a scattering of tiny <1mm crystals. A very attractive specimen that displays well.
