Dalen-Kjørholt 'Limestone' Mine, Kjørholt, Brevik, Porsgrunn, Telemark, Norway

A mineralogically fascinating specimen from the new 2007 find of Calcites in Norway. Possibly stalactitic in form, the specimen has a smooth sculptural form, narrow at one end and branching out into complex terminations which appear to be multiple scalenohedrons aligned in a triangular form. The Calcite has a wet looking lustre, is translucent to transparent, and a pale amber colour which becomes richer towards the centre. A possibly different generation of Calcite forms scalenohedral crystals to 20mm growing outwards from the main body of crystals. Very unusual, and quite attractive specimen.
