Dalen-Kjørholt 'Limestone' Mine, Kjørholt, Brevik, Porsgrunn, Telemark, Norway

This unique Calcite specimen exhibits complex crystal growth; it is possibly 'stalactitic' starting with a narrow end broadening to form a complex 'crown like' termination with multiple aligned scalenohedrons which measure 25mm in length. A later generation of small scalenohedral crystals to 6mm grow from the main body. The Calcite is transparent and a beautiful amber colour, with a bright lustre. From a recent (2007) unique find of two pockets of Calcites in a Norwegian Limestone mine. This is one of the more mineralogically interesting specimens, with great display potential!
