Guaratinga (Jaquetô), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil

An Aquamarine crystal with fine elongated terminations at each end, pale green in colour and very gemmy with interesting etched surfaces. The terminations are quite regular suggesting they formed like this, while the etching on the faces occurred later as a result of the crystal coming into contact with a solution that is depleted in the elements of the Aquamarine. The etching adds interesting detail and mostly resembles 'I's or narrow windows indented into the crystal faces. Very few of these specimens have been recovered and this one is from an old find. One partial crystal face has been lost due to fracture; otherwise a fascinating display specimen.
