Burra Burra Mine, Burra, Mt Lofty Ranges, South Australia, Australia

ex. Ian Acworth Collection
75mm x 67mm x 39mm
Lustrous dark blue blades of Azurite are intergrown within a cavity with associated bright green sparkly Malachite. The Azurite is quite typical of Burra Burra with bladed crystal form, and in the typical pale greenish to brown matrix. The Azurite exhibits flashes of transparent electric blue. The Malachite forms a sparkling botryoidal crust, lining the cavity, and intergrown with the Azurite. This is an old specimen from the early 1900s, there is some damage to the Azurite blades as reflected in the price.
