Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

A mass of crystalline forest green Malachite appears to be in equilibrium with very lustrous dark blue Azurite. The Azurite forms lustrous crystal faces and edges with the Malachite forming small granular crystals within the central areas of the crystal faces. It is possible that the Malachite is replacing and pseudomorphing the Azurite, or that the lustrous Azurite is even a second generation of growth, in alignment with the original crystal form. Guessing at the geochemical conditions under which this formed at Tsumeb is food for thought! Displays well!
